Speaker 1: Within your dreams, there are many keys. One of them could open the doorway to nightmare.
Speaker 2: Come in. Welcome.
Speaker 1: I'm Artemis Black. Welcome to the world of your terrifying imagination. A world where you can transport yourself to any place or any time. The boundaries are limitless. Come with us now into a world where you are the master. Or are you?
Speaker 3: What does this guy think he's doing?
Speaker 4: Just pass him, Hank.
Speaker 3: I'm trying to, but he keeps blocking the road.
Speaker 2: Hey!
Speaker 4: Get out of the way!
Speaker 3: Oh, you stupid jerk!
Speaker 4: Get out of the way! What's this guy's problem?
Speaker 1: I don't know, Maggie.
Speaker 3: But I'm sure as hell going to find out.
Speaker 1: Our mystery drama, Hearse of a Different Color, was inspired by a story by Arch Obler and written especially for Doorway to Nightmare by Winslow Swan and edited by Crimson McKenzie. Our cast include Crimson McKenzie, Mick Davis, and Winslow Swan. I'll return shortly with Act One. Have you ever had one of those days? You're fired. Where everything goes completely wrong. Don't you lay a finger on me!
Speaker 4: I can't stand on you!
Speaker 1: And the day keeps getting worse and worse. And if just one more thing goes wrong, it could possibly send you Toppling over the edge.
Speaker 2: Toppling over the edge.
Speaker 1: A suspense thriller from Winslow Swan. Now available in paperback from Amazon.com. Sometimes you should take a step back. And then there are those times... when even you could go toppling over the edge. Hang on to your sanity. The
Speaker 1: author Jean Del Fontaine once said, A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it. With those words in mind, let me take you to the wonderful and terrifying road that leads to your imagination. It is a most marvelous place to visit. Anything can happen there. And it usually does. For instance, close your eyes and relax. Do you hear it? A car speeding down a lonely desert highway. And inside, I will introduce you to Hank Stewart and Maggie Williams. They sound rather happy for the moment.
Speaker 4: Oh, you should have seen his face.
Speaker 3: Oh, I bet it was a sight.
Speaker 5: I took him for everything, Hank.
Speaker 4: And I do mean everything.
Speaker 6: Including this car. I must say, your husband had great taste in vehicles.
Speaker 5: I wish I could have burned it up right in front of him.
Speaker 3: A nice car like this? Why would you even say something like that?
Speaker 5: Because he was more interested in this damn car than he was in me.
Speaker 4: Or the kids, even.
Speaker 6: Now, keeping a car as good as this one going does take a lot.
Speaker 5: No, Hank. It was more than just taking care of it. He babied it. Talked to it even more than he talked to me. Washing and polishing it.
Speaker 4: Every weekend.
Speaker 5: And giving his own family no time at all. It was.
Speaker 4: Infuriating.
Speaker 3: Well, I can see why you want to destroy it.
Speaker 6: But hey, we are now using it to go to Mexico and live like royalty.
Speaker 5: The judge awarded me everything in the divorce. I didn't even leave him enough to buy a pair of socks.
Speaker 6: And wait until Alice tries to cash check. I would love Love to see.
Speaker 3: The look on her face.
Speaker 4: What did you do?
Speaker 1: Nothing.
Speaker 6: Just took our entire savings account. It's all in cash in that bag in the trunk. That's almost 50 grand.
Speaker 5: I had no idea, Hank.
Speaker 6: There's a lot about me that you have no idea about. Now come here and kiss me.
Speaker 4: Hey! Watch the road, you maniac.
Speaker 1: Oh, come on.
Speaker 4: Just one little kiss. Stop pulling on me!
Speaker 5: Last thing we need to do is wreck this car.
Speaker 4: Now stop it!
Speaker 3: Oh, all right. But when we do stop... Oh, believe me.
Speaker 5: There will be more than just kisses.
Speaker 4: Hey, what's that up ahead?
Speaker 3: Well, obviously it's another car, silly.
Speaker 5: Yeah, but we haven't even passed another car since getting onto this highway. Why did we come this way?
Speaker 3: I told you, Mags, it's the fastest way to Mexico.
Speaker 5: It's just so desolate. Nothing but desert and sand as far as the eye can see.
Speaker 3: Well, that car that we're coming up on.
Speaker 5: Say, what kind of car is that?
Speaker 3: Oh, I'm not sure. Just another car.
Speaker 4: No, it looks like.
Speaker 5: like... Oh, my God, Hank.
Speaker 4: It's a hearse.
Speaker 3: Now, what would a hearse be doing out in the middle of nowhere?
Speaker 5: I don't know, but I don't like it.
Speaker 4: Pass it, Hank. Pass it. Let's get ahead of it.
Speaker 3: As you wish, my dear.
Speaker 2: Ah!
Speaker 5: Hey, you jackass!
Speaker 4: Move it over! Hank, hurry up! Pass him!
Speaker 3: I'm trying to!
Speaker 2: What is this idiot doing? Hank, look out!
Speaker 4: He's trying to run us off the road! Hey, move it over! What's the matter with you? Hank, look out!
Speaker 1: Oh, Maggie.
Speaker 4: You okay? Um, I'm not sure.
Speaker 2: Stupid.
Speaker 3: What was he trying to do, kill us?
Speaker 1: Maggie?
Speaker 3: What's the matter?
Speaker 4: When we got beside the hearse, I saw the driver.
Speaker 3: Okay, so what did he look like?
Speaker 4: I'm not sure.
Speaker 3: What do you mean you're not sure?
Speaker 7: Hank, the driver had no face.
Speaker 3: Find some music or something. That'll make you feel better.
Speaker 5: This bottle's helping too.
Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm glad we packed some of that whiskey. Here, take another swallow. Feeling a little better?
Speaker 4: I really am. Imagine, a guy with no face.
Speaker 6: Hey, we are out in the desert.
Speaker 3: Your eyes can play tricks on you.
Speaker 5: That must have been what happened. Hank, look, up ahead.
Speaker 3: So what of it? I've been driving pretty fast.
Speaker 4: Then you do see it? The hearse! The one who tried to kill us!
Speaker 1: Comedian George Carlin once said, Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot? And anyone going faster than you is an idiot? than you is a maniac? I'll return shortly with Act 2.
Speaker 5: The only witness to her murder cannot speak.
Speaker 4: Until now.

Speaker 1: Author Douglas Adams once said, I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.
Speaker 3: Shut up, Maggie. There is no way it's the same.
Speaker 4: But it is.
Speaker 2: It is. See, look.
Speaker 4: The hearse.
Speaker 5: Curtain, the windows on the back and the sides.
Speaker 4: The dark color.
Speaker 6: Did you notice how the color changed after we tried to pass it?
Speaker 4: I don't care. It's the same damn car. It's the same hearse.
Speaker 3: Then I'm going to pass it this time.
Speaker 4: Hank, please be careful.
Speaker 3: I'm blowing out your ass.
Speaker 4: Come on! Get over! Hank, he's doing it again! He's working in front of us!
Speaker 3: Then I'll pass him on the right side of the road!
Speaker 4: Are you stupid crazy?
Speaker 2: Hank! Look out!
Speaker 7: Just like before! He tried to.
Speaker 4: to.
Speaker 3: Maggie, come on. Stop crying for Christ's sake. My nerves are frazzled enough.
Speaker 4: But why? Who is it? Who would he want to... Hank? Are you okay?
Speaker 3: When we got side by side....
Speaker 2: No.
Speaker 3: It just can't be.
Speaker 4: Hank, what did you see?
Speaker 6: When we were side by side, I looked over where the driver should have been.
Speaker 3: Maggie, there was no one, no one driving that car.
Speaker 5: Still can't find a station.
Speaker 6: Out here in the desert, you probably won't. Guess your old husband didn't believe in satellite radio.
Speaker 4: Hank, what did you mean?
Speaker 5: I mean, what you said about the driver of that car.
Speaker 6: I don't want to talk about it.
Speaker 3: I don't even want to think about it.
Speaker 5: All right, all right.
Speaker 4: It's okay. It's okay.
Speaker 5: We won't talk about it.
Speaker 4: But where are we going?
Speaker 3: There has to be a town or something up ahead. We need to report what happened.
Speaker 4: Yes.
Speaker 5: A town with people and police.
Speaker 4: Hank, did you hear?
Speaker 1: Yeah, I did.
Speaker 3: And look, up ahead.
Speaker 4: The hearse stopped in the middle of the road?
Speaker 2: What?
Speaker 4: What's he doing?
Speaker 3: He's just sitting there. He's blocking the whole road.
Speaker 1: Come on.
Speaker 5: Where are we going?
Speaker 6: I'm going to find out who this jackass is once and for all.
Speaker 3: And you're coming with me.
Speaker 4: Hank, I don't like this.
Speaker 2: Hey, idiot.
Speaker 3: Come out of that thing. Got a little surprise for you.
Speaker 4: Hank, please be careful.
Speaker 3: What are you, stupid? Do you hear me? Come out of that hearse.
Speaker 1: No?
Speaker 3: Then I'll open the door for you.
Speaker 2: Ah!
Speaker 3: Hank!
Speaker 2: No.
Speaker 6: No, it can't be.
Speaker 2: Ah!
Speaker 1: One of the most famous lines from Led Zeppelin's song, Stairway to Heaven, says, Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road.
Speaker 2: You are on.
Speaker 1: But are you absolutely sure there is time? I'll return shortly with Act 3.
Speaker 5: Have you heard any good books lately? Audiobooks from Winslow Swan, now available on Spotify.
Speaker 1: You can help support the channel and visit our merchandise store. T-shirts, caps, mugs, and so much more. Now available at doorwaytonightmare.com The Canadian fantasy fiction writer Charles DeLint once said, all said and done, all roads lead to the same end. So it's not so much which road you take as how you take it.
Speaker 4: What was it?
Speaker 3: Maggie, will you stop crying? Stop asking me that.
Speaker 4: I can't. But what did we see? A hallucination. It was nothing more. That was no hallucination.
Speaker 5: Or some trick of our eyes played on us and you know it.
Speaker 4: It was real.
Speaker 3: No, Maggie, it wasn't. And if you keep saying that, then I'll... You'll what? I'll leave you.
Speaker 1: I swear I will.
Speaker 3: I'll take this car and all the money and drop your sorry ass on the side of the road.
Speaker 4: You wouldn't dare.
Speaker 3: Oh, just try me.
Speaker 6: Now shut up!
Speaker 5: Hank, what's that?
Speaker 3: Now don't start on me again.
Speaker 4: No, Hank. Look, up there. Lights.
Speaker 3: Oh, thank God. It must be a city up ahead.
Speaker 5: Ha ha.
Speaker 3: Look at all of those beautiful lights.
Speaker 5: Hank, did you mean what you said about leaving me?
Speaker 3: Oh, Maggie, I was just, you know, upset, that's all. I could never leave you. Now come here and give me a kiss.
Speaker 4: Hank, look!
Speaker 2: Hank!
Speaker 3: It can't be!
Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, it is! The hearse!
Speaker 2: Again!
Speaker 3: But it just appeared!
Speaker 1: Out of nowhere!
Speaker 2: Do something!
Speaker 4: Turn around! Get away from it!
Speaker 5: Aggie, look!
Speaker 2: It... It.
Speaker 6: It disappeared!
Speaker 2: No.
Speaker 4: Hank, what's happening? What the hell? It's behind us!
Speaker 3: It's getting closer!
Speaker 4: Hank, don't let it get us! Get away from it! I'm trying!
Speaker 7: I've got my foot to the floor now!
Speaker 3: We must be doing 110!
Speaker 4: Hank, it's rolling over us! Don't let it get me, Hank!
Speaker 2: Maggie!
Speaker 3: Look out!
Speaker 4: Maggie!
Speaker 2: Ah! Hank! No! Ah! Ah!
Speaker 5: Hello, Chief?
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's Carl.
Speaker 9: Have I got a story for you. Of course, I've got video. And you won't believe it. No, nothing like that. It's a car accident. Out here on Highway 99. wait a minute and just listen. The car is, well, it's in the middle of the road, and it's been, well, flattened.
Speaker 4: You heard me. Like a steamroller.
Speaker 9: Just made a pancake out of it. And get this, it looks like it caught on fire, too. Yeah, I got plenty of video, but there's something else. Now, you're not going to believe this, but there are, well, hoofprints all around the wreck. No, hoofprints, like the kind a goat would make if it was as big as a cow and could walk.
Speaker 4: With two legs.
Speaker 9: Cloven hoofprints in the pavement. No, Chief, not in the dirt on the side of the road, but the actual asphalt pavement, deep At least two inches. It looks like something with cloven hooves circled the wreck like it was, I don't know, admiring it.
Speaker 4: No, Chief.
Speaker 9: Nobody's out here yet.
Speaker 5: No cops.
Speaker 9: No ambulance.
Speaker 2: Nothing.
Speaker 9: Whoever was in that car, they're long past needing an ambulance.
Speaker 3: Hey, there's a car coming.
Speaker 4: Maybe the state police. Hey, watch it!
Speaker 2: Look out!
Speaker 1: Hey!
Speaker 2: Hey!
Speaker 9: No, I'm okay, Chief. Crazy idiot just tried to run me down. No idea who or what it was. Looked like a black hearse, yet it kept changing colors. Funny thing, I swear to you, it looked like no one was driving that car.
Speaker 1: As the reporter watches the taillights fade into the night, he looks over at what is left of the car that held Hank and Maggie, and a cold shiver travels up his spine. I'll return shortly with a final word.

Speaker 4: It always comes in the dead of night, Arthur.
Speaker 5: A formless shadow that whispers the most dreadful things.
Speaker 9: But you've never believed in such things. Ghosts or anything that was of a supernatural nature.
Speaker 1: It's not you.
Speaker 4: Until now. Oh, Arthur. I'm so scared. The things that it wants me to do.
Speaker 5: Every night, for almost a week, it whispers to me, and I don't know how much longer I can take it.
