Alien Encounters & Sweet Death: "Berkshire UFO" & "The Flood" Mystery
Game plan
Welcome to another captivating episode of Curiouser & Curiouser, hosted by Crimson McKenzie. In this installment, we unravel the bizarre, the paranormal, and the unexplainable with two true tales of the weird and unusual.
First, we travel back to September 1969 to investigate the legendary "Berkshire UFO" incident. Across a quiet Massachusetts evening, a wave of unexplained lights and terrifying close encounters forever changed a peaceful small-town community. Was it a mass hallucination, or the first historically recognized alien encounter? Then, we pivot to one of the most freakish industrial disasters in American history: "The Flood". We dive deep into the tragic, surreal chaos of the 1919 Great Boston Molasses Flood, where a 25-foot wave of sticky, sweet death traveled at 35 miles per hour, destroying blocks and leaving an eerie legacy behind.
If you love historical mysteries, extraterrestrial encounters, weird history podcasts, and true paranormal suspense, Crimson McKenzie is your guide through a reality stranger than fiction.
In this episode, we explore:
- The Berkshire UFO: The shocking, deeply consistent witness testimonies of mass abduction and missing time.
- The Great Molasses Flood: The terrifying physics, corporate negligence, and deadly reality of the 1919 Boston disaster.
- The fascinating intersection where bizarre history meets the unexplained

Speaker 3: Berkshire UFO. Today, Berkshire County, Massachusetts... is famous for its wide-open countryside that makes it a popular vacation destination. But the rural territory was once heralded as a hotbed of UFO activity, following the alleged sighting that took place on the evening of September 1, 1969.
Speaker 1: Woo-hoo!
Speaker 3: According to witnesses, a disc-shaped craft was seen performing acrobatic maneuvers in the sky above the Berkshires that night. Others say they didn't just see the craft, but were taken aboard it. It's unclear exactly how long the phenomenon lasted, but many who claim to have witnessed the Berkshire UFO describe losing time, unable to account for an hour or so during the incident. Sounds like some of you on a Friday night, huh? It was estimated that at least 40 residents, including children who were now adults still living in the Berkshire area, saw the alien aircraft.
Speaker 3: Some of them reportedly called into the local radio station to share the bizarre phenomenon that they had just seen. The large number of simultaneous witness accounts during the incident has made a distinct case among alleged sightings in recent decades. The witness accounts were so plentiful and compelling that the Great Barrington Historical Society decided to officially cancel recognized the incident as the first off-world UFO case in U.S. history, some 45 years after it happened. Following the stunning recognition, witnesses formed the non-profit UFO Monument Park Inc.
Speaker 3: to build a monument in the area. meant as a landmark to honor the alleged UFO encounter that residents saw in 1969, was erected by the group and signed by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker. Even the governor signed it. Despite the significant eyewitness accounts of the event, some residents of the town have fought to keep the incident under wraps. Hmm, wonder who they were working for. The monument was removed following arguments between the group of witnesses that built the structure and the local officials in 2019.
Speaker 3: I flippin' knew it. Still, the eerie aftermath of the unexplained encounter stays with the residents who bore witness that fateful night and who continue to share the creepy story to this day. This is Crimson McKenzie. Join me again for another true tale of the uncanny and peculiar. Curiouser and Curiouser.

Speaker 3: The Flood. The year was 1919.
Speaker 1: Boston, Mass. It was a time when things were going pretty good in the country.
Speaker 3: Until the flood happened. On January 15, 1919, a 15-foot-tall wave, moving at 35 miles an hour, covered.
Speaker 4: The great city.
Speaker 3: Eyewitness accounts are terrifying. Buildings collapsed. Telephone poles were snapped like twigs. Electrical wires flew and steel girders broke. And people drowned. Yes, drowned. 21 poor souls drowned, according to the official report. An entire section of the city was completely destroyed. There wasn't a single piece of land that wasn't untouched by the massive wave. Curiouser and curiouser. Cleanup took 87,000 man hours. The flood did an amount of damage that in today's money would be over 100 million bucks.
Speaker 3: 119 lawsuits followed, including 25,000 pages of transcripts and almost 2,000 exhibits. And at the end of it all, someone was held responsible.
Speaker 3: The United States Industrial Alcohol Company. Wow. For the most curious fact of all, was it the flood of 1919 in Boston? Was not, I repeat, not a massive wall of water, but molasses.
Speaker 2: Ew, I hate it.
Speaker 3: Yes, molasses that had spilled from a ruptured tank stored by the waterside.
Speaker 1: Two and a half million.
Speaker 2: Gallons of that sticky, yucky, gross, smelly mess killed 21 people drowned in molasses.
Speaker 4: Bless their hearts.
Speaker 3: This is Crimson McKenzie. Join me again for another true tale of the uncanny and peculiar. Curiouser and Curiouser.
