Speaker 1: Hey guys, this is Crimson.
Speaker 2: And this is Swan. And we'd love to know what you think of the stories.
Speaker 1: Even if it's bad.
Speaker 2: So leave us a comment.
Speaker 1: Or give us a thumbs up.
Speaker 2: Thank you!
Speaker 3: It lies in wait amidst your dreams where nothing is ever how it seems. It is a portal to a terrifying world beyond the doorway to nightmare. Come in. Welcome. I'm Artemis Black. Emerson once said, all is riddle, and the key to the riddle is another riddle.
Speaker 4: You have to destroy it.
Speaker 1: Don't you think that I have tried?
Speaker 4: Then try harder.
Speaker 1: You don't understand, Paul. It's a miracle. Can't you see that? Martin and I created... A miracle.
Speaker 4: Claire, what you and Marty created is an abomination.
Speaker 3: Our mystery drama, Playing God, was written especially for Doorway to Nightmare by Winslow Swan and edited by Crimson McKenzie. Our cast includes Jonathan Rosignol, Crimson McKenzie, and Winslow Swan. I'll be back shortly with Act One.
Speaker 1: Hi, it's Crimson.
Speaker 3: And Swan.

Speaker 3: Many people hold that miracles happen every day. We may not actually see them. But they do happen. I'm not talking about seas parking, but small, possibly inconsequential miracles.
Speaker 4: Please, come in. Sit down.
Speaker 3: No!
Speaker 5: Do not turn on the light. I have an aversion to bright lights. The one by the chair is sufficient for you to see. I realize you are probably not used to meeting clients this way. I am in need of an attorney. Not because anything criminal, but simply to ask a question.
Speaker 4: I know, I know.
Speaker 5: Why didn't I just call you? I have to let you see that I'm sincere. That my question, after I tell you what happened, will be a strictly legal one. And don't worry. I won't hold you to your answer.
Speaker 5: My name is Paul Leighton. I'm a scientist, geneticist to be exact. I knew Martin Perry from college. He was what we like to call a free spirit. Not to say that he wasn't brilliant, just.
Speaker 4: A little lazy.
Speaker 2: Paul! Well, how the hell are you?
Speaker 4: I'm doing well, Marty. So why am I here?
Speaker 2: Oh, right to the chase. You always were that kind of guy.
Speaker 4: Aren't you going to invite me in?
Speaker 2: Of course, buddy. Please, enter my humble abode.
Speaker 3: Humble?
Speaker 4: Looks more like a mansion.
Speaker 2: Okay, okay. So it's three stories tall. Four if you include the basement. So it has eight bedrooms and five baths.
Speaker 4: So it's... Enough already. It is a very nice home.
Speaker 2: Thank you, Paul. I really appreciate it.
Speaker 4: Can we please just get on with it?
Speaker 1: Paul! You really made it!
Speaker 4: Hi, Claire. I see you're still with Marty, huh? How'd you make it work?
Speaker 1: I'm a great little cook.
Speaker 2: Can't you tell? I think I've gained 50 pounds since college.
Speaker 1: How about a drink?
Speaker 4: Sounds good.
Speaker 1: Do you still take.
Speaker 4: No, just straight up.
Speaker 2: It really is good to see you again.
Speaker 4: You too, and Claire. So, what have you been up to?
Speaker 2: Oh, just a little research that Claire and I have been doing.
Speaker 1: And we both thought of you. Letting you come into our fold, so to speak.
Speaker 4: What sort of research?
Speaker 2: You're never going to believe it. Come on, let's go down to the lab.
Speaker 1: Well, Paul, what do you think?
Speaker 4: How do you find anything down here?
Speaker 2: No, not your typical lab, I know.
Speaker 1: We find it conducive to the creative process.
Speaker 4: How do you know what you are creating?
Speaker 2: Oh, we manage. Besides, this is just the working lab. It is what is through that door that we really want.
Speaker 1: You to see.
Speaker 4: Why don't you just tell me what it is?
Speaker 1: Paul... How was life created?
Speaker 4: Are you looking for an opinion or a textbook answer?
Speaker 1: Depending on what your beliefs are, there are several answers. But as a scientist, it has been the question that all of us have searched for.
Speaker 4: And you think that you have found that answer?
Speaker 2: No, no, no, Paul, no. What we have done is simply a miracle.
Speaker 3: Come on.
Speaker 1: Well, what do you think?
Speaker 4: I'm not really sure what I'm looking at.
Speaker 2: Oh, come on, Paul. What do you see?
Speaker 4: All right, all right. I see a rather large aquarium of what appears to be, well, mud.
Speaker 1: That is exactly what I said when Martin showed it to me.
Speaker 2: She wanted to bathe in it.
Speaker 4: All right, you two, you've had your fun, but I'm... Oh.
Speaker 2: Paul, the fun is just beginning. Look, one of the theories that science holds is that we as a living organism crawled out of some sort of primordial ooze.
Speaker 1: And that through natural selection and evolution, we became what we are today.
Speaker 4: An unproven and somewhat unpopular theory.
Speaker 2: What if I could show you proof?
Speaker 4: You're kidding me, right?
Speaker 2: Claire, why don't you do the honors?
Speaker 1: You're not going to believe it!
Speaker 4: What the hell is that?
Speaker 3: What exactly is Paul seeing? Claire and Martin stand behind him, smiling at their discovery. We shall discover what lies in the basement when I return with Act Two.
Speaker 1: Hi, it's Crimson.
Speaker 3: And Swan.
Speaker 1: You want to hear some more episodes?
Speaker 2: Then join us on our YouTube channel at Doorway to Nightmare.
Speaker 1: Don't forget to hit the like button if you like it. Tell all your friends and subscribe.
Speaker 3: Impossible monsters.
Speaker 1: Well, what do you think? Isn't he beautiful?
Speaker 4: What is it?
Speaker 2: That sludge in the other room in the aquarium produced what you are seeing.
Speaker 4: But that's impossible.
Speaker 1: Impossible or not, there it stands.
Speaker 4: Seven feet tall and seven arms. A head, I assume. But no eyes or nose. Only an elongated mouth.
Speaker 2: As Claire says.
Speaker 4: Something out of Lovecraft. What did you do?
Speaker 1: Well, Paul, that's our little secret. Suffice it to say, we grew a primordial man.
Speaker 4: Jesus, it moved!
Speaker 2: Oh, it does much more than move.
Speaker 4: You know you have to destroy this, right?
Speaker 1: Why? Don't you see, Paul? By some miracle, we have created life. A new species of man.
Speaker 2: A perfect man. You want to destroy it? Then watch this.
Speaker 3: Martin.
Speaker 2: What are you exactly what you want me to do?
Speaker 5: Destroy it.
Speaker 4: What the hell? You just shot it. What is it doing?
Speaker 3: Keep watching. Keep watching. The skin.
Speaker 4: It's Pushing the bullets out? There's no wound of any kind.
Speaker 1: An actual living and breathing Superman.
Speaker 4: What the hell is it doing now?
Speaker 3: Just watch, Paul.
Speaker 2: Just sit back and watch. Vincent, walk forward. Towards me.
Speaker 4: Wait, what the hell is Marty doing?
Speaker 1: Don't worry, Paul. Marty knows what he is doing.
Speaker 3: That's right.
Speaker 2: Let me have one of your hands. So, Dawson.
Speaker 1: We haven't had a chance to do any tests on brain functions.
Speaker 2: Now, go back. No! No, grab that knee! Stop!
Speaker 3: Stop pulling me!
Speaker 4: No!
Speaker 1: Martin!
Speaker 4: Claire, do something! Stop!
Speaker 2: Right knee!
Speaker 3: Knee!
Speaker 1: Vincent? Stop it!
Speaker 4: Quick, help me get Marty out of here and lock that door.
Speaker 2: How is he? Alive.
Speaker 4: Although how, I'm not sure. His back is completely broken.
Speaker 1: Oh, God.
Speaker 4: Claire, you have to destroy... What did you call it?
Speaker 1: Oh, that? It was Marty's idea. We called it Vincent... After Vincent Frankenstein. He thought it was a good joke.
Speaker 4: It's no joke.
Speaker 1: This was the reason we asked you to come. Your field of expertise is the human brain. Since Vincent was born, he has the capacity to understand simple commands, but.
Speaker 5: But as time went on, it's become more uncontrollable. I just can't believe you and Marty.
Speaker 1: But don't you see the possibilities? Imagine an entire army of Vincents. They can't be killed?
Speaker 2: We wouldn't have to.
Speaker 1: Send young men to die in battle anymore.
Speaker 4: Hitler thought the same thing.
Speaker 1: I'm not talking about world domination, Paul. I'm talking about an alternative to the modern soldier.
Speaker 4: But you can't control it. Look what it did to Martins.
Speaker 1: How about a drink?
Speaker 4: After that? I need one.
Speaker 1: Better?
Speaker 4: Yes, thank you. Claire, what are you going to do?
Speaker 1: You said we should destroy it. Don't you think that we have tried?
Speaker 4: What do you mean?
Speaker 1: Perhaps you noticed the other tank?
Speaker 4: The one next to the ooze? Yes, I did.
Speaker 1: It's filled with acid. We put Vincent into it. Nothing. It simply climbed out. You saw what bullets did. We even tried to burn it.
Speaker 3: No.
Speaker 4: No, no, no, no. There has to be a way.
Speaker 1: Look over there.
Speaker 2: That axe.
Speaker 4: It looks like you tried to chop a metal pole.
Speaker 1: We tried decapitation. It crushed the axe. Don't you see? We have created the ultimate soldier.
Speaker 4: Ugh. I'm not feeling.
Speaker 1: It is all a question of control, Paul. If we could figure a way to control it, then we would have the perfect man.
Speaker 4: What was in that drink?
Speaker 1: Marty figured it all out. Of course, he won't be able to perform the operation, but he can instruct me.
Speaker 3: Thomas Deloney once said, God sends meat, and the devil sends the cooks. What sort of operation does Claire intend on doing? Stick around for our concluding act. Longfellow wrote, a simple child that lightly draws its breath and feels its life in every limb. What should it know of death? What happened?
Speaker 1: Well, hello, Vincent.
Speaker 4: What did you call me?
Speaker 2: I would shake one of your hands, but... I'm sort of confined to this bed. Oh, God. What have you done to me?
Speaker 1: You have become the perfect man.
Speaker 2: Oh, come on, Paul. Try to walk.
Speaker 4: I can't see. What did you do to me?
Speaker 1: We needed a controllable brain. Your brain. Magnificent. Now, how do you like your new body, Vincent?
Speaker 4: Quit calling me that.
Speaker 2: Look, Claire. He's walking.
Speaker 1: The perfect man.
Speaker 3: What have you done?
Speaker 4: You maniacs.
Speaker 1: That's close enough, Vincent. Vincent, I said stop.
Speaker 2: Paul, stop. Don't come any closer.
Speaker 4: Indestructible. You said indestructible.
Speaker 1: Put me down.
Speaker 4: Indestructible.
Speaker 2: Paul, put her down.
Speaker 1: Martin, help me.
Speaker 4: You need a bath, Claire. You need a bath.
Speaker 2: No, Paul.
Speaker 1: Please, put me down.
Speaker 4: Yes, Claire. I'll put you down in the bath. Oh, God.
Speaker 2: Claire.
Speaker 4: Oh, God.
Speaker 2: No. No.
Speaker 4: Indestructible.
Speaker 3: No. Martin.
Speaker 2: Stay away. Stay away.
Speaker 4: So, you see, this is my story. And now you know why I want advice from you.
Speaker 3: Claire?
Speaker 4: Oh, she's dead.
Speaker 5: I watched as the skin peeled away from her. I saw her bones disintegrate into the acid.
Speaker 4: Marty?
Speaker 5: He's still down there, lying on the gurney, unable to move. I'll deal with him in a little while. First, I want to ask you my question.
Speaker 1: Did I.
Speaker 5: commit murder? Or is it an act of revenge? Or sort of justifiable homicide? I mean, Claire and Marty had to kill me first to get my brain, right?
Speaker 3: No.
Speaker 4: Don't get up.
Speaker 5: My eyes finally emerged and I can see now. Perhaps you would like to see me after you answer my questions you may turn on the light.
Speaker 3: Euripides once said, I know indeed what evil I intend to do, but stronger than all my afterthoughts is my fury, fury that brings upon mortals the greatest evils. I'll be back shortly with a final word.
Speaker 2: If you're enjoying these stories... come over to our YouTube channel, Doorway to.
Speaker 1: Nightmare, where we add a few pics to color your imagination. See the faces behind the voices, too. Come on, you know you wanna.
Speaker 3: We offer no moral to our tale. Simply a story to spark the imagination, which is what we strive to do. Illuminate that part of your own brain that conjures up fantastic worlds and creatures. And you can be sure that we will be here to help you with that magic. Our cast included Jonathan Rosignol, Quinson McKenzie, and Winslow Swann. The story was edited by Clemson McKenzie and directed by Winslow Swan. And now, a preview of our next tale.
Speaker 4: Isn't Michael playing beautifully?
Speaker 3: Yes, my dear.
Speaker 4: I suppose that my money is being well spent.
Speaker 1: Of course it is, Arnold. We haven't had an empty seat in the theater since he started these concerts.
Speaker 4: And I suppose that you have been keeping him....
Speaker 1: I have been making sure that he has everything he needs, if that is what you mean.
Speaker 3: Of course, darling.
Speaker 4: We must make sure that Michael Mason is happy.
Speaker 3: This is your host, inviting you to return with us through the doorway to nightmare for another adventure into the world of your terrifying imaginations. Until next time, slumber peacefully.
