Speaker 1: It lies in wait amidst your dreams, where nothing is ever how it seems. It is a portal to a terrifying world beyond the doorway to nightmare.
Speaker 2: Nightmare.
Speaker 1: Come in. Welcome. I'm Artemis Black. Welcome to the world of your imagination. A land that has no boundaries. Where anything can happen. A place where only someone such as Frederick Washington Davis could exist.
Speaker 2: There!
Speaker 3: You see, absolutely nothing is out there.
Speaker 4: But I swear, I heard someone. Or something.
Speaker 5: Jack, perhaps we should call the police.
Speaker 3: Fred, I promised Stan and Dorothy that everything will be fine while they're gone. And I intend to make sure of it.
Speaker 4: But I could have sworn that.
Speaker 3: Unless you actually see someone or... or something, I don't want to be bothered for the rest of the night. Do you understand?
Speaker 1: Our mystery drama, Hauntings, Adventures, and Ghostsitting, was written especially for Doorway to Nightmare by Winslow Swan and Crimson McKenzie. Our stars include Dave Arkapov, Annie Mick, William Stafford, Crimson McKenzie, and Winslow Swan. I'll return shortly. with Act One. The author Sue Grafton once wrote, Ghosts don't haunt us. That's not how it works. They are present among us because we won't let them go. For some of us, that is probably true. Unless you happen to be Stan and Dorothy Peters, who have their own special haunt.
Speaker 2: Stan?
Speaker 4: Did you get the mail?
Speaker 6: Right here, honey.
Speaker 4: Looking for something in particular, Dorothy?
Speaker 5: Bill.
Speaker 2: Bill... Advertisement? Oh, here's some coupons we can use.
Speaker 6: What are you looking for?
Speaker 2: I'll know it when I see... Here it is.
Speaker 4: Good news, I hope?
Speaker 2: Yes, very good news. Here, Stan, you read it.
Speaker 6: Dear Dorothy Peters.
Speaker 4: Nice opening.
Speaker 2: Quiet, Fred.
Speaker 6: We would be greatly honored if you would be willing to attend the 22nd Annual Homeworks Convention the weekend of the 27th.
Speaker 2: Isn't that great, Stan?
Speaker 4: Um, Dorothy, what exactly is the Homeworks Convention?
Speaker 6: Oh, come on, Fred. Even I know.
Speaker 1: What it is.
Speaker 2: Why don't you tell him, Stan?
Speaker 4: I'm all ears, Stan.
Speaker 6: Well, it's like this.
Speaker 1: You see....
Speaker 6: Dorothy works at home, so she is part of Home Works.
Speaker 2: I couldn't have said it better.
Speaker 6: Yeah, but what.
Speaker 4: Is it exactly?
Speaker 6: Um, Dorothy, maybe you should take over from here.
Speaker 2: Oh, Stan, it's those handmade side projects that I've been putting up on the internet for the past three years. Remember?
Speaker 4: So what is this convention?
Speaker 1: Okay.
Speaker 4: Okay.
Speaker 2: Well, according to the email I got, their board of directors was quite impressed with my sales and they want me.
Speaker 6: Um, Dot, that's like this coming weekend.
Speaker 2: What?
Speaker 6: Damn, it is.
Speaker 1: So, what of it?
Speaker 2: Oh, Stan is supposed to go to New York to meet with their corporate board members. I'm sorry, honey, I forgot.
Speaker 1: What?
Speaker 2: I guess I could cancel.
Speaker 1: No way.
Speaker 6: You are not going to miss this opportunity.
Speaker 4: Well, why can't you go to New York and Dorothy go to her convention?
Speaker 2: Well, what would you do? I mean, you can't split yourself. Or can you?
Speaker 4: What does that have to do with anything?
Speaker 6: I thought you had to be either with Dorothy or myself. Or have they changed the rules?
Speaker 1: Yep.
Speaker 4: They changed the rules.
Speaker 2: Why am I not surprised?
Speaker 4: So you see, I can stay here and you two can go wherever you need to go. Don't worry, I can take care of things here.
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what worries me.
Speaker 2: Besides, we've had all of those break-ins all around the neighborhood and I wouldn't want you here by yourself, Fred.
Speaker 6: We know how nervous you can get.
Speaker 2: Me?
Speaker 6: Nervous?
Speaker 5: What was that?
Speaker 2: It's just thunder, Fred.
Speaker 6: See what I mean?
Speaker 4: Okay, I suppose I could go with one of you.
Speaker 6: No way. I think I have a better idea.
Speaker 7: Don't you worry about a thing. We'll be more than happy to do it. You just have a great time. Goodbye.
Speaker 3: Who was on the phone?
Speaker 5: Oh, Jack. I didn't see you come in.
Speaker 3: Well, I'm not a ghost.
Speaker 5: Of course not.
Speaker 7: But we are going to be spending the weekend with one.
Speaker 3: Millie, who was on the phone?
Speaker 5: Now, Jack. It's okay. That was Dorothy.
Speaker 7: She's going to a convention this weekend, and Stan is going to be in New York.
Speaker 3: I am so glad that Stan accepted the offer from the corporate office. But what does that have to do with us and a ghost?
Speaker 7: Well, Dorothy explained to me that there have been some burglaries in her neighborhood.
Speaker 3: Isn't that why Fred is there? To keep an eye on the... Uh-oh. Never mind. I think I understand.
Speaker 5: It's only for the weekend. And besides, what could possibly happen?
Speaker 1: If you have ever followed the stories of Dodd and Stan's resident ghost, you know that quite a bit... could happen? The only way to find out is to join us for Act 2 shortly. Lewis Carroll once wrote, And as to being in a fright, allow me to remark, that ghosts have just as good a right in every way to fear the light as men to fear the dark. What's the boogeyman?
Speaker 3: As a matter of fact, it was. Well, that was interesting.
Speaker 7: Kind of strange to watch a horror movie with a. Uh.
Speaker 4: The word is ghost, Millie. I'm not offended by it.
Speaker 7: Oh, I didn't think that you were. I just didn't know if you preferred spirit.
Speaker 3: Does it really matter?
Speaker 4: Well, not to me it doesn't.
Speaker 1: Hmm.
Speaker 4: It's getting quite late.
Speaker 3: It's only ten. Do you usually go to bed this early?
Speaker 4: Well, not usually. I stay up and watch a little TV or listen to the radio... Sometimes, if I'm very quiet, I practice my ghostly sounds.
Speaker 5: Oh, Fred, please, do some of those sounds for us.
Speaker 4: Well, I don't know. Stan said that nosy Nellie might hear something that I did and call the police again.
Speaker 3: Oh, the police? Are you kidding?
Speaker 7: Nellie told me about it when I met her for lunch.
Speaker 4: Oh, she is absolutely positive that this house is.
Speaker 1: Haunted.
Speaker 3: Well, I mean, isn't it?
Speaker 7: Oh, Jack, she thinks it's haunted. like that movie Poltergeist. Fred is more like Casper.
Speaker 4: What was that?
Speaker 3: Sounded like the trash can was knocked over.
Speaker 5: Could have been a cat.
Speaker 4: Maybe. Yeah, I'm sure that's all that it was.
Speaker 3: I hope, anyway.
Speaker 8: Jack?
Speaker 4: Jack? Are you asleep?
Speaker 1: What?
Speaker 6: Oh, Fred.
Speaker 3: No, I'm not asleep. Not now, anyway.
Speaker 4: I think I heard something outside.
Speaker 3: Well, then, see what it is.
Speaker 4: Would you kind of come and look with me?
Speaker 3: Jack?
Speaker 5: What's going on?
Speaker 3: Fred thought he heard something outside.
Speaker 7: Oh, Jack.
Speaker 5: Go see what it is.
Speaker 3: I was just getting ready to.
Speaker 1: Come on, Fred.
Speaker 4: You see anything?
Speaker 3: Not a thing. Are you sure you heard something?
Speaker 4: Well, I mean, I thought I did.
Speaker 3: I told Millie not to be watching scary movies with a ghost. I mean, look at what is on the TV now.
Speaker 2: Oh, that?
Speaker 4: Oh, that's not so bad.
Speaker 3: Blood of the Vampire. And that's not so bad?
Speaker 4: Okay, Jack, maybe I did imagine something.
Speaker 5: Everything all right, Jack?
Speaker 3: Fred has been watching too many movies. And you're not helping.
Speaker 5: What did I do?
Speaker 1: Um, Jack?
Speaker 6: Jack?
Speaker 4: Jack, you asleep?
Speaker 1: Oh.
Speaker 3: Not anymore. What's the problem now, Fred?
Speaker 4: I think, I'm not sure now, but I think that there may be someone in the house.
Speaker 5: What's going on now?
Speaker 3: Fred, are you still watching Blood of the Vampire?
Speaker 4: Oh, no, no, no. That ended an hour ago. I'm watching Creature from Planet X now.
Speaker 5: Fred, come on.
Speaker 7: We've got to get some sleep. Even I know when to shut the TV off.
Speaker 3: Do you want me to call Dot?
Speaker 1: No, no.
Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
Speaker 4: But I really think that there might be someone inside the house. Oh, Jack.
Speaker 5: Maybe you'd better take a look.
Speaker 3: Fine. Come on, Fred. Let's go.
Speaker 4: I'm really sorry, Mr. Carson.
Speaker 3: Now look, Fred. It is now three in the morning. I would like to get some sleep, if you don't mind.
Speaker 4: I honestly thought that someone was in the house.
Speaker 5: Come on, Fred.
Speaker 7: Even if there were someone in the house, couldn't you just scare them off?
Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
Speaker 4: I guess I could do that. You know, sometimes, since I've been here with Stan and Dot, I kind of forget that I'm a ghost.
Speaker 5: Well, now that you know.
Speaker 7: You go ahead and scare away anything that might come in.
Speaker 1: Jack?
Speaker 5: Jack? Wake up!
Speaker 6: What?
Speaker 4: What?
Speaker 3: Millie, what's going on?
Speaker 5: I think I actually heard something this time.
Speaker 3: Not you, too. There isn't anybody.
Speaker 5: I don't think that was Fred.
Speaker 1: Fred? Fred?
Speaker 3: Are you around?
Speaker 5: I wonder where he could be.
Speaker 3: Someone is definitely in the house.
Speaker 5: I'm calling the police. Maybe you should go and see what you can do.
Speaker 3: I left my gun at home. You think if it is a burglar, he's going to be scared of me?
Speaker 5: What are we going to do? And where the heck is Fred?
Speaker 1: Norman O. Bryan once said, To be seen is the ambition of ghosts, and to be remembered is the ambition of the dead. Fred's ambition is to simply be the best ghost for Stan and Dorothy. So, where is he now? Perhaps we shall discover his hiding place in Act 3.
Speaker 1: Joseph Conrad once said, The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary. Men alone are quite capable of every wickedness.
Speaker 3: Sounds like it's coming from Stan's den.
Speaker 5: Wait, Jack, I've got an idea.
Speaker 7: All right, whoever you are, you would better get out of here now or I shall summon the hounds of hell upon you.
Speaker 5: Fred, you around?
Speaker 3: Try it again, Billy.
Speaker 7: I'm warning you, whoever you are, You had best come out now or face the consequences.
Speaker 5: Fred, wherever you're hiding, do something.
Speaker 7: Now!
Speaker 6: So what happened?
Speaker 4: It's not funny, Stan.
Speaker 5: No, Stan.
Speaker 2: It isn't funny. It's... It's hilarious.
Speaker 1: Oh, Fred.
Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
Speaker 5: Now, now, Fred. It's okay. You did manage to get rid of the thief.
Speaker 4: Yes, but not the way that I had planned. That was embarrassing.
Speaker 6: Will you stop keeping us in suspense? What happened?
Speaker 1: Well.
Speaker 4: You remember that eight-foot skeleton in the basement we put up last Halloween?
Speaker 5: Fred, you didn't. No, he most certainly did.
Speaker 3: Tell him, Fred.
Speaker 4: Well, I just grabbed it and started walking up the stairs toward the thief.
Speaker 2: And that scared him off?
Speaker 5: Well, not at first.
Speaker 4: Well, you see, I was going to do my fatal warning. You know.
Speaker 1: Are you prepared to meet your fate? Beware.
Speaker 3: Beware. But that isn't exactly what happened. I so wish that I had my camera recording.
Speaker 2: So what happened, Fred?
Speaker 4: Well, I got....
Speaker 6: Big surprise there.
Speaker 5: It's not funny. What did you do, Fred?
Speaker 4: I forgot how to do the warning, so I... Well, I.
Speaker 5: Oh, go on, Fred.
Speaker 1: Do it.
Speaker 4: Well, at first I tried this. When that didn't work, I was able to conjure up the hounds from hell. You guys know them as Tate.
Speaker 1: Woo-hoo!
Speaker 3: When the police arrived, they grabbed the guy running out of the house. He tripped over the trash cans.
Speaker 4: Oh, I just don't seem to be able to do anything right.
Speaker 5: Oh, Fred, of course you do.
Speaker 2: You did scare that burglar off.
Speaker 6: Sort of.
Speaker 5: And you know that we all love you.
Speaker 6: Don't push it, Millie.
Speaker 3: Yeah, Millie, don't push it.
Speaker 2: She's right, you two. Whether you want to deny it or not, we are all glad that Frederick Washington Davis is here with us.
Speaker 1: Fred grins as he looks upon his extended family. I'll be back shortly. with a final word. Of course, Fred is still the resident ghost of Stan and Dorothy Peters. Occasionally, Jack and Millie will come over for a weekend of scary movies and a lot of great friendship. I've often wondered how I might be invited to one of these haunted weekends. Our cast included Dave Arkapov, Annie Mick, Crimson McKenzie, William Stafford, and Winslow Swan. The story was written and edited by Crimson McKenzie and Winslow Swan, and directed by Winslow Swan.
Speaker 1: And now, a preview of our next tale.
Speaker 8: Ladies and gentlemen, here it is, the most listened-to radio show on the planet that.
Speaker 5: The other stations are tuned in to.
Speaker 8: And welcome to Yes, It's True. I am your host, Charlie True, and today we've got a great video about my favorite subject, the men in black. Or, rather, the aliens. As a matter of fact, we have one right here with me.
Speaker 2: That is correct, Charlie. I am indeed an alien.
Speaker 8: And exactly where are you from?
Speaker 2: You would not even be able to understand or pronounce the name of the planet. Your tiny world hasn't progressed to our level.
Speaker 8: But why are you here now?
Speaker 2: Because we had no choice.
Speaker 1: This is Artemis Black, inviting you to return with us to the doorway to nightmare for another adventure into the terrifying world of your imagination. Until next time, slumber peacefully. Epilogue.
Speaker 2: The butler did it.
