Speaker 1: It lies in wait amidst your dreams, where nothing is ever how it seems. It is a portal to a terrifying world beyond the doorway to nightmare. Nightmare. Come in. Welcome. I'm Artemis Black. The most popular sort of story in the world of the paranormal is the ghost story, and the master of these is definitely M.R. James. While tonight's tale is loosely based on one of Mr. James' stories, I can assure you that what lies ahead is far more terrifying than the ghostly tales conjured up by him.
Speaker 2: But I thought you said that there were only five rooms.
Speaker 3: But there were. At least, last night there were.
Speaker 2: Maybe you simply miscounted.
Speaker 3: I can assure you, Opal, that there were only five rooms in this dollhouse.
Speaker 2: Oh, but as you can see, there are now seven rooms. Maybe the dolls decided they needed more room.
Speaker 1: Our mystery drama, Dollhouse, was suggested from a story by M.R. James and written especially for Doorway to Nightmare by Winslow Swan and edited by Crimson McKenzie. Our cast includes Mick Davis, Crimson McKenzie, Annie Mick, and Dave Arkapov. I'll return shortly with Act One. Have you ever had one of those days? You're fired. Where everything goes completely wrong.
Speaker 4: Don't you lay a finger on me!
Speaker 5: I can't stand on you!
Speaker 1: And the day keeps getting worse and worse. Hey!
Speaker 4: Hey!
Speaker 1: And if just one more thing.
Speaker 1: Possibly send you toppling over the edge.
Speaker 2: Toppling over the edge.
Speaker 1: A suspense thriller from Winslow Swan. Now available in paperback from Amazon.com. Sometimes you should take a there are those times when even you could go toppling over the edge. Hang on to your sanity.

Speaker 1: The Ghost Story. That wonderfully delicious way of raising the small hairs on the back of your neck and sending shivers down your spine. At least, that is my reaction. Perhaps you have told such a story, either from your own imagination, or something strange that has happened to you. As in the case of Mr. Raymond Dillard, a collector of rare and unusual artifacts. He is currently in the shop of Mr. Eric Cheddars, discussing the price of one of those.
Speaker 6: treasures. AT....
Speaker 3: Ninety... One hundred dollars. And that is quite generous.
Speaker 4: Hand carved? Mahogany wood? Complete with the original dowels? It's worth at least five hundred.
Speaker 3: Not in the best of condition at all, Mr.
Speaker 1: Cheddars.
Speaker 3: Now is it?
Speaker 4: Surprising there's anything left of it.
Speaker 3: It's going to cost a small fortune just to get it back into shape.
Speaker 4: Now we both know that you're going to make a profit on this. How about three hundred?
Speaker 1: Hmm.
Speaker 3: How about $ 150?
Speaker 4: Dollhouse? Circus 1780? And you're only offering $ 150? Make it $ 250.
Speaker 3: You drive a hard bargain, Mr.
Speaker 1: Chetters.
Speaker 3: Well, I can be equally as hard here.
Speaker 6: $ 150 and a dollar.
Speaker 1: More. $ 151, my final offer.
Speaker 4: Ah, Mr. Dillard, you have to understand. I'm not going to make a dime off of this at that price. And things have been, well, difficult lately.
Speaker 3: Have it delivered to my home by five, will you? That's a good man.
Speaker 6: Did he take it?
Speaker 4: Got a hundred and fifty out of him, the old miser.
Speaker 6: Good riddance to that horrible thing. And it couldn't go to a more deserving man.
Speaker 4: I couldn't agree more, Beth.
Speaker 5: Do you think.
Speaker 6: I mean, once it's gone, we won't.
Speaker 4: Don't you worry, my love. I believe we won't have any more restless nights.
Speaker 2: And you paid how much for it?
Speaker 3: Only a 151. And I can easily get a thousand for it. Yes, Opal, it was definitely a.
Speaker 1: Steal.
Speaker 2: Have you looked inside yet?
Speaker 3: I was just about to. Let me start the recorder so that I can make a good assessment.
Speaker 1: There we are.
Speaker 3: Recording number 2513. On new acquisition, Raymond Dillard. We have a beautiful doll's house, hand-carved out of what appears to be mahogany wood. Now, let's open it up and see what we have.
Speaker 2: Oh my, it's simply beautiful. Yes, it is.
Speaker 1: We have, um.
Speaker 3: Let me see. Five rooms that you would normally find.
Speaker 2: I count six, Raymond.
Speaker 3: Hmm. Yes, I suppose you are correct.
Speaker 1: Six rooms.
Speaker 3: Three on the ground floor, three upstairs.
Speaker 2: And look at the details. Miniature paintings on the wall. The furniture is in perfect shape.
Speaker 3: We have what appears to be a family. Mother and father, two children, a boy and girl, and obviously a grandfather.
Speaker 2: Raymond, look.
Speaker 3: At what, Opal? What do you see?
Speaker 2: For an instant, I thought I saw another doll in the upstairs bedroom closet.
Speaker 3: Nothing there now, at least. I don't see anything.
Speaker 2: Perhaps it was simply a trick of the light.
Speaker 3: Well, it is getting late. Both of our minds are playing tricks. I'll give it a good once-over tomorrow.
Speaker 6: Maybe you could simply call him and tell him... Explain to him.
Speaker 4: Beth, I thought we were going to forget about it.
Speaker 6: But, I mean, what if something were to, you know, happen?
Speaker 4: Oh, are you really that worried about it?
Speaker 6: Eric, we counted five dolls, right?
Speaker 4: Only six rooms until.
Speaker 6: Until the other night, when we both saw.
Speaker 4: I'll call Mr. Dillard first thing in the morning.
Speaker 6: I just pray that nothing happens before then.
Speaker 1: From ghoulies and ghosties and long-legged beasties and things that go bump in the night, good Lord, deliver us. An old prayer, but one that I believe all of us...
Speaker 1: has uttered at some time. I'll return shortly with Act Two.
Speaker 5: The only witness to her murder cannot speak.
Speaker 6: Until now.
Speaker 3: Click.
Speaker 5: A Tale of Revenge by Winslow Swan. Now available on Amazon. Revenge. is a dish best served cold.
Speaker 1: The actor Anthony Hopkins once said, The magical, supernatural force that is with us every second is time. We can't even comprehend it. It is such an illusion. It's such a strange thing.
Speaker 3: Opal, come in here quick. Look at the dollhouse.
Speaker 2: Okay, so what am I supposed to... Oh, dear lord.
Speaker 6: Yes?
Speaker 3: You do see it, don't you?
Speaker 2: What could have happened?
Speaker 3: Tell me what you see first.
Speaker 2: The old man. The grandfather doll. We put him in an upstairs bed last night.
Speaker 3: But look at him now.
Speaker 2: He's... He's in the bed, but now there's a butcher knife buried in his chest. And blood, or what looks like blood, is covering the bed.
Speaker 3: Where exactly did that dollhouse come from?
Speaker 4: I told you yesterday. I got it from an estate closeout.
Speaker 3: And that's all you know?
Speaker 5: No.
Speaker 6: That isn't all he knows. Tell him.
Speaker 5: Or would you rather I told him?
Speaker 3: Tell me what, Miss Chetters?
Speaker 4: Look, it was all just a bad dream, and.
Speaker 6: Mr. Dillard, you saw it, didn't you? The old man lying in bed... With a knife sticking out of his chest?
Speaker 1: How.
Speaker 3: How did you know?
Speaker 6: Take my advice, Mr.
Speaker 1: Dillard.
Speaker 6: Burn the whole thing. Dolls and all.
Speaker 2: Why are we still awake?
Speaker 3: Because we both need to see whatever may happen.
Speaker 2: I don't understand what you mean. Oh, God.
Speaker 4: Look.
Speaker 3: I see it. But I don't believe it.
Speaker 2: Just look. The children.
Speaker 3: They're... they're... But we only turned our backs for a minute.
Speaker 2: But there.
Speaker 6: See?
Speaker 2: The children have been decapitated in their bedroom. Their bodies on the floor. but their heads sitting on the beds, and the room is covered in blood.
Speaker 6: Well, Mr.
Speaker 5: Dillard, did you destroy the dollhouse?
Speaker 1: No, Mrs.
Speaker 3: Chetters, I didn't. But I do want you or Mr. Chetters to tell me just what is going on.
Speaker 4: We don't really know ourselves. It started the night I brought the dollhouse into the shop. I took it in the back to our apartment to get a better look inside and to assess the price.
Speaker 3: Never mind all that. What happened?
Speaker 6: I saw it first, Mr.
Speaker 3: Dillard.
Speaker 6: The figure in the closet in the upstairs bedroom.
Speaker 4: Then the murder of the grandfather and the two children.
Speaker 3: What happens after that?
Speaker 6: We don't know. Eric sold the damn thing to you.
Speaker 4: There is one other thing, Mr.
Speaker 1: Dillard.
Speaker 4: Beth saw the shadow of another figure that first night. But by the second night, well... Tell him what you saw, Beth.
Speaker 6: I saw... I swear I saw the figure of a man an hour ago. own closet, and he was holding an axe.
Speaker 1: Author Ransom Riggs wrote in his book, Mrs. Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, quote, In that narrow cut of light, I saw a face that seemed to have been transplanted directly from the nightmares of my childhood. I'll return shortly with Act Three.
Speaker 5: Have you heard any good books lately? Audiobooks from Winslow Swan, now available on Spotify.
Speaker 6: Watch Circle of Mystery, Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. EDT on the Doorway to Nightmare YouTube channel.
Speaker 1: The author Richard Matheson once said, I think that we are yearning for something beyond the everyday. And I will tell you, I don't believe in the supernatural. I believe in the supernormal.
Speaker 3: One o'clock. That seems to be the time something happens.
Speaker 2: But what are we supposed to do?
Speaker 3: Just keep looking at the dollhouse. If anything is going to happen, I want to witness it.
Speaker 2: And what if nothing happens?
Speaker 3: Then perhaps we have broken whatever supernatural thing is going on. Now, keep watching.
Speaker 2: What was that?
Speaker 3: I'm not sure. Came from the bedroom.
Speaker 2: Oh, Raymond. Let's just take this thing and throw it into the river. Someone's in the bedroom.
Speaker 1: Look.
Speaker 3: We took our eyes off the dollhouse.
Speaker 6: And now.
Speaker 3: Now! Don't you see it?
Speaker 2: The figures of the parents. They're both.
Speaker 3: Oh, God.
Speaker 2: They're in the kitchen. Their heads on the tables.
Speaker 3: And the entire room is covered in blood.
Speaker 2: Don't leave me here.
Speaker 3: I'm just going to see what is making that... Oh my lord.
Speaker 6: No. It can't be.
Speaker 2: What do you see? An axe.
Speaker 6: Leaning against the wall.
Speaker 3: And it's covered in.
Speaker 1: In.
Speaker 6: Blood.
Speaker 1: Blood.
Speaker 4: I'm glad to see you're okay, Mr. Dillard.
Speaker 3: Never mind all that. Just tell me everything you know about that dollhouse.
Speaker 4: Should have told you before you bought it. It was handcrafted by a.
Speaker 1: A what, Mr. Chetters?
Speaker 4: A serial killer. They called it his therapy. He crafted the whole house, including the dolls. Then, before his execution, he said that his soul would always be in the house, not only reenacting his crime, but claiming more victims. Consider yourself lucky, Mr. Dillard.
Speaker 1: From all the accounts that I have heard, Mr. Raymond Dillard returned home gathered up the dollhouse, and burned it in the backyard. Whenever someone asks him about it, he simply shakes his head, remembering the image of the bloody axe in the kitchen. I'll return with a final word.
Speaker 3: It is in all of us.
Speaker 1: Waiting.

Now available at doorwaytonightmare.com British film director Terence Fisher once asked if he believed in the supernatural. His answer? Oh yes, certainly. I can't believe, I can't accept that you die and that's the end. Physically, maybe it is a fact. But there is something about the mind that is more than that. Perhaps Mr. Fisher was on to something. What are your thoughts? Our cast included Dave Arkapov, Annie Mick, Mick Davis, and Crimson McKenzie.
Speaker 1: The story was edited by Crimson McKenzie and directed by Winslow Swan.
Speaker 1: And now, a preview of our next tale.
Speaker 3: Ah, the smell of that clean mountain air.
Speaker 1: I'm already starting to feel better.
